We learn from where we come from, and here in Ohio, we learn a lot. From practical advice to the clichés of life, living in our state has certainly taught us a thing or two. Here are 13 important life lessons you’ll get from living in Ohio. How many can you relate to?
- Pack/prepare/dress for ALL weather contingencies.
joeymanley/Flickr You will probably need an umbrella, sunscreen and sweater all in one day because here in Ohio we know that the weather forecast simply cannot keep up with our weather whimsy state and this knowledge is programmed in us no matter what town, state or country we’re actually in at the time.
- Hard work and consistency really pay off. For proof of this, simply visit your favorite Buckeye State farmers market.

- Sometimes all you need is a good, long drive for the sake of a good, long drive.
Nicholas A. Tonelli/Flickr We have some perfect ideas here!
- Only take your friends/family on the roller coasters that you know without a doubt they can handle.
Patrick McGarvey/Flickr Unless the actual goal is to terrify them. Then, by all means, take your pick of them here.
- Loyal. Always be loyal.
Tony Alter/Flickr Bengals fans: we love you!
- Keep your friends close and your enemies closer… UNLESS they’re Michigan fans.
Scott Stuart/Flickr Then they should be no where near you. Ever. There are no exceptions here.
- There’s no use crying over a crater-sized pothole. Life happens.
Michael Gil/Flickr
- However, with that being said, balance and rotate your tires often.
Jacqui Brown/Flickr
- It is, in fact, possible to drive in the snow: carefully and skillfully, and extremely slowly.
Christina/Flickr We’re just waiting on the rest of the world to figure it out.
- Always scan the road ahead and surrounding woods for deer. ALWAYS.
Christopher Porter/Flickr
- Home-cooked meals cannot be beat. Don’t even try.
Stopnlook/Flickr
- There’s seriously, SERIOUSLY no place like home.
Dave Kekish/Flickr
- You will literally live in “The Heart of it All.”

living in Ohio September 03, 2021 Sarah What’s it like living in Ohio? Allow us to wax poetic here for a minute. Living in Ohio really is the best. We are a state with small towns and big cities, with world-class amenities and attractions, scenic state parks and even a beautiful national park, and some of the best people in the entire world. Buckeye State folks are friendly and welcoming, and as long as you can make a big “O” shape with your arms and swear to always root against Michigan (and the Steelers), you’re good to go in our book! We’ll welcome you with open arms. What is life in Ohio like? Well in addition to being a warm and welcoming state (see the above question), one of the best things about living in Ohio is that we have four separate, distinct seasons. (It’s a big point of pride here actually!) Spring is verdant and vivacious; summer is hot, hazy, humid, and heavenly; autumn is a dreamy display of fall foliage; and winter is cold and cheerful. Of course, each of these seasons is made even better by the activities, traditions, and events that surround them. From blooming flower fields in the spring to holiday lights in the winter (and everything in between), there is seasonal fun to be had all year round in the Buckeye State. We’ve put together this list of the best seasonal activities and events in Ohio, so you can find fun things to do all year-round! What are some unique things about Ohio? If you’re into learning about random state trivia and other fun facts about Ohio, these eight little nuggets of knowledge are things you won’t find in the history books. Intrigued? Here’s one: did you know the center of the world is actually right here in Ohio? It’s true! (Kind of…) Ohio is just home to a small community named Center of the World, which most people don’t know about. It was once planned to make the community a significant economic center… but you know what they say about the best-laid plans… For more information, read our full article here.
