Who doesn’t love animals in some form or another? Loving animals isn’t restricted to just the family dog and cat. There are many other animals that you can love and South Carolina has some really cool places to check them out. I grew up on a small farm. We had pigs, chickens, rabbits, a bull, and a pair of geese (which are the meanest birds ever to live!), a dog or two, and I had a cat at one time. I loved growing up with all of these animals. I learned a lot of valuable knowledge from just being in close proximity to such animals. Anyway, if you love animals here are 9 little known places in South Carolina where you can go and have a wonderful experience!

- Brookgreen Gardens & Zoo - Murrells Inlet

Brookgreen Gardens/FB Brookgreen Gardens is just beautiful, but there is also a zoo here as well. They have domestic animals, native animals, and a Cypress Aviary. In fact, this is the only aviary built over a cypress swamp so you’ll be able to see the birds in their natural habitat.

And, they have a Liger, the biggest cat in the world.

Split Creek Farms/FB Visitors are welcome to come by the farm seven days a week and educational tours are available by appointment. They are only $10 a person and the tour lasts about 90 minutes. It’s a real treat and their products are amazing. I love the feta and the cream cheese spreads.

Legare Farms/FB This is probably the oldest working farm in South Carolina. It’s been working for 290 years! I do believe they are legendary for their tomatoes all over South Carolina. Check their website for events where you can visit the farms. They hold events all the time.
I can practically hear all the children begging to go now. The great thing about these locations is, I’m sure at least one of them is pretty close to you if you live in South Carolina. My childhood wasn’t so long ago that I don’t remember how much fun I had when my mom would take me to the zoo and, well, living on a farm meant that I had animals at hand day and night.
