Many wonderful towns are located along the banks of Mobile Bay, including Dauphin Island, which is known as the “Sunset Capital of Alabama.”

Dauphin Island boasts a variety of wonderful places to visit, one of which is Fort Gaines. Fort Gaines is a historic masonry fort that was built in 1821, and it’s famous for its important role in the American Civil War’s Battle of Mobile Bay.

Another place to visit before leaving Dauphin Island is the Audubon Bird Sanctuary. This is one of the top birding spots in the U.S., which makes it a definite must-stop for bird enthusiasts of all ages.

Another attraction is Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. This reserve includes 6,000 acres of coastal wetlands and water bottoms. It’s also considered one of the Gulf Coast’s most beautiful outdoor spots.

Located in Mobile is the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. This military history park and museum is a must-visit for history lovers. Its main feature is the USS Alabama (BB-60), which is one of the last remaining WWII battleships
