Ax-Man Surplus is a series of wonderfully weird stores across the Twin Cities metro area. The original location is in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul, but there are also locations in Fridley and St. Louis Park.

Many especially enjoy the St. Paul location for the weird, not-for-sale items they have on display - including a giant telephone and an iron lung!

But no matter which location you visit, you’ll have a truly unusual shopping experience. Each store is filled with shelves packed with unique treasures. Ax-Man purchases surplus items from many different sources, so you never know what you’ll find.

Because of the random assortment of stuff, you may not think a trip to Ax-Man would be very practical. But many of the items here are functional. You can find sturdy dishes, bags and other apparel, and household items.

That said, some of the most practical items may come with an absurd theme. You can find a plain bag at any old store, but can you find - for example - a colorful Liberace bag? These kinds of weird items are often up for grabs at Ax-Man. They’re functional, eco-friendly, and make fun gag gifts!

The store also sells many small items that could be useful. Science equipment such as beakers and flasks could make for a fun display in your home. Other containers may be good for storing items.

Other items, like electrical components, can be great for people who like to tinker with new projects.

The store often gets loads of fabric, scrap leather, and other textiles. This, in addition to the many other crafting supplies, could make Ax-Man your new favorite place to shop for projects.
