I rarely write these articles in first person, but when it comes to this beautiful campground in South Carolina, I simply can’t resist. Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Jocassee near Salem, South Carolina, Devils Fork State Park is undeniably the most beautiful campground in South Carolina.

If you’ve experienced this campground on Lake Jocassee firsthand, then you’ll likely agree it just might be the most beautiful campground in all of South Carolina. Let’s take a look.

TripAdvisor/David C Lake Jocassee is a man-made reservoir nestled in a canyon, making it a stunning mountain lake. In all, the lake is 7,500 acres and some spots are 300-feet deep. And oh, those mountains!

South Carolina Parks The campground(s), yes there’s more than one but we’ll get to that in second, are carved into the natural landscape with tent sites that have been leveled and filled with soft earth and sand.

Yelp/Kelly T Imagine waking in the morning to this view only steps away. Lake Jocassee is known for its pristine water. Much of it comes from springs so not only is it clear, it’s also cooler than most lakes in the Palmetto State.

South Carolina Parks Now, about that second campground. Tent campers will love the added bonus at this campground: a boat-in-only campground located on a small island not too far from shore!

TripAdvisor/JimmyJ Kayakers, paddleboarders and canoers love Lake Jocassee for the adventures available on this crystal clear lake.

YouTube/Discover South Carolina You never know what’s around the corner. There are several waterfalls you’ll only see if you paddle to them.

TripAdvisor/bobditch Several of the tent sites in the “mainland” campground are hike in, but there’s a paved path most of the way. Campers and RV’s are also welcome and there are perfect sites for you guys too.

alltrails.com/IrishHeartbeat P Get there early, set up camp and then hit one of the two trails at Devils Fork State Park. In Spring the Oconee Bell Loop is rich with spring blooms of its namesake, the Oconee Bell. You’ll find the trail map and campground map at South Carolina Parks’ official website.

TripAdvisor/Katie B With so much to see and do, this stunning mountain escape is absolutely perfect for a “staycation” this year.

South Carolina Parks If you’re more of a “glamper” than a “camper” then this state park even has lakeside cabins you can rent. The first time I stayed in one of these I thought it was nicer than the apartment I lived in! The lake view was for sure nicer than my view at home.

Yelp/Karen L According to the State Parks’ website, Devils Fork State Park offers the only public access to Lake Jocassee. If you’re a day visitor you may experience long waits just to get in on the weekends. But if you have campground or cabin reservations…well, lets just say you won’t have to worry about getting in, right? If you’ve never been to this incredibly beautiful state park in South Carolina, then make this your year to get out and explore!

Devils Fork State Park is located at 161 Holcombe Cir, Salem, SC, 29676. More information is available at the South Carolina Parks official website.
