The Place had its roots back in the 1940s as a clambake restaurant called Whitey’s where travelers would enjoy roasted clams while sitting on tree stumps. In 1971, when Whitey sold the restaurant it was bought by a former employee, Vaughn Knowles who partnered with his brother, Gary, to expand the beloved restaurant that became known as The Place.

Each seat at The Place is exclusive outdoor dining. No need to dress up here. In fact, you’ll want to keep it comfortable and casual. Everything is cooked on an open wood fire, so you get to see the preparation of every part of your meal from start to finish.

Take your time looking over the menu. It isn’t extensive, but each item is so tasty it’s hard to decide what to choose from first. You have a choice of roasted seafood, chicken, and steak that is grilled and so perfectly tender that you can cut it with a plastic knife.
