Residents of Arkansas can attest to the fact that it’s difficult to call anywhere else in the world home. One small town, El Dorado, goes so far as to invest in keeping its residents happy. In 2009, the town was voted “America’s Best Downtown” and today, the city is investing nearly $100 million to completely revitalize the town.

The charming town of Eldorado is situated 120 miles south of Little Rock.
Main Street Eldorado/Facebook El Dorado was once among the wealthiest towns in America. During the 1920s, the town experienced economic prosperity resulting from an oil boom. Folks from all over moved to the small town. By 2010, however, the town had lost thousands of residents.
Despite having one of the best small town districts in the country, El Dorado and similar Mississippi Delta towns have experienced residents moving elswhere.

The solution? A $100 million investment to revitalize the town for its current and potential residents.
Main Street Eldorado/Facebook Officials are hoping to improve the quality of life for residents of this vibrant town. In fact, the former president of Marvel Comics has been specially appointed to oversee the revitalization.
Phase One of the project, beginning September 27, will be a $54 million investment in the Arts District.
Main Street Eldorado/Facebook The town will host major artists such as Brad Paisley, ZZ Top, Train, and Smoky Robinson in a brand new amphitheater that can accommodate 8,000.
Phase Two of the project will focus on the town’s historic buildings, eight of which are considered National Historic Landmarks.
Main Street Eldorado/Facebook The 1929 Rialto Theatre will receive a major makeover to incorporate a massive art gallery and new exhibit spaces.
Funding for the project will come from local businesses, corporations, and the Walton Family Foundation.
