Enjoy The Scenic Loop Around Massachusett S Goose Cove Reservoir

Located on the coast of northeast Massachusetts is Cape Ann with its beautiful rugged coastline and lovely seaside fishing villages. One of the best ways to explore the area is to hike and if you haven’t yet taken a trek around Goose Cove Reservoir, you should consider doing so the next time you head out to the trails for some exercise and fresh air.

Goose Cove Reservoir is one of the main sources of water for the city of Gloucester and was made in 1963 when a dam was built. The area around the reservoir is conserved by the Essex County Greenbelt.

Goose Cove Reservoir holds over 300 million gallons of water for residential use in the area.

Visitors can take an easy 2.1-mile trail that loops all the way around the reservoir with an elevation gain of just 200 feet. The pathway is partially paved and good for hiking, walking, running, and nature views.

Trail use is good year-round and leashed dogs are allowed as well. You may have plenty of company as this is a popular trail that experiences heavy foot traffic. But the scenic views the entire way around will be worth it!

Along the trail, you’ll see evidence of glacial activity that occurred in the area thousands of years ago, like glacial erratics and moraines.
