Finding a good sausage sandwich in New Jersey is a real treat, and while it isn’t a staple here, it’s definitely a favorite. We think we’ve found one of the best at a seasonal spot on the Jersey Shore. Midway Steak House isn’t fancy, but it has a sausage sandwich that’s so outstanding, it will have you longing for summer.

Midway Steak House has been a must-stop in Seaside Heights just about forever.

Our Traveling Tales/Google Local Not forever, exactly, but they’ve been around for decades and have survived so much (Hurricane Sandy and 2013 Boardwalk Fire, for example). It is a tiny little shop and by no means fancy. There is no seating area and doesn’t look much different from any other boardwalk business. It’s boarded up in the winter and alive with neon lights on summer nights.

So what makes this unassuming little walk-up restaurant so special?

The sausage sandwiches are out of this world!

The sausage sandwiches at Midway Steak House are legendary; stuffed with thin, crisp, perfectly seasoned sausages. They taste best topped with peppers and onions. People come from all over the Garden State just for a bite! But the sausage sandwiches aren’t all this shop is known for - you have to try their cheese balls. Like any good boardwalk food joint, you’ll also find cheesesteak, fresh lemonade, fries, and funnel cake.

To top it all off, you’re right in the heart of Seaside Heights.

Seaside Heights Beach & Boardwalk/Facebook One of the most popular outdoor attractions in The Garden State, Seaside Heights boasts an amusement park, old-school arcades, and plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach Water Park are favorites, along with Lucky Leo’s arcade. Back from the beach a bit, you may also enjoy Hemingway’s Cafe, Klee’s Bar & Grill, and Karma Nightclub.

Best Restaurants In Jersey Shore March 18, 2021 Melissa Mahoney What are the most popular foods in New Jersey? Every state seems to have certain foods that they are known for and New Jersey is no different. One of the best-known we have is the tomato pie, which is a pizza that has mostly sauce and very little cheese. Some of the best tomato pie can be found at PaPa’s Tomato Pies in Robbinsville. And speaking of pizza (we are talking the regular kind now), some of the best in the country is right here in the Garden State. Try Brother Bruno’s Pizza in Wayne which makes a great Sicilian deep dish. (Side note: they make the most incredible dessert pizzas you can imagine and you can customize your own from their list of toppings!) Pork roll, also known as Taylor ham, is another food only found in New Jersey. Made with sliced pork-based meat, egg, and cheese on a hard roll, it is a staple.  Have a look at this list of the 10 Most Iconic Foods in New Jersey for more. What are some of the best restaurants in New Jersey that are beachfront? Dining beachside is a favorite thing to do in the Garden State and we have numerous restaurant choices that sit alongside the roughly 130 miles of coastline. In Cape May, Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grill is just steps away from the beach and hosts incredible ocean views from its rooftop bar. This waterfront restaurant serves some incredible seafood although there are many other choices on the menu like burgers and salad. Sit dockside at Beach Tavern in Monmouth Beach while dining on fresh seafood, pasta, or burgers. You’ll have an unforgettable meal with a view! What are the best beaches in New Jersey? Let’s face it, New Jersey has some beautiful beaches that we are so lucky to have! If beachcombing is a hobby of yours, there are several beaches known for their sand dollars. You can find these treasures at Bradley Beach, Manasquan Beach, and Seven Presidents, just to name a few. For less crowded, there are some little-known beaches you may want to visit in the summer like Pearl Beach at Cape May Point or Highlands Beach at Sandy Hook Bay.
