New Jersey has some truly interesting roadside attractions but perhaps one of the most iconic is Greeks Play Land in Monroe. Located on 87 acres, it’s quite the hodgepodge of places. It may best be described as a museum/playground/art installation/wild fantasy brought to life hybrid. Around for decades, this quirky spot is a beloved Garden State staple.

Greeks Play Land first opened in 1970 to serve as a whimsical place for handicapped children to enjoy.

While the scenery is stunning, you’ll also find some…stranger things.

But before I get into what you’ll find, let’s start with the sweet story behind this enchanting place.

Greeks Play Land was built primarily using repurposed materials by “The Greek,” an orphan turned landscaper to the stars.

He made a promise, he kept it, and this play land is open for the public to enjoy, absolutely free of charge.

The Play Land is home to a playground, stone museum, sculptures and entertainment venues (available for rent).

There’s also a random military helicopter because…why not?

The Stone Museum is a favorite. Enjoy hands-on displays, minerals from all over the world and a glowing fluorescent room.

Other things you’ll find on the grounds? A giant clown, massive tire park, 10 waterfalls and an ADA accessible (and free!) mini-golf course.

Greeks Play Land is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. (May-October). You can find it at 608 Spotswood-Englishtown Rd. Monroe Township. Truly one-of-a-kind, it may be the only place in the world where you can stroll gorgeous gardens, hold rare minerals, play a round of mini-golf and take a photo with a giant dinosaur sculpture. Since a visit is completely free, I recommend giving it a look as soon as you can. I also recommend reaching out to confirm that it’s open. You can call at 732-521-223.
