If you’re looking to escape scorching temperatures as the weather warms up, don’t be tempted to settle for a boring municipal pool. Arkansas has plenty of places where you can enjoy nature and beat the heat! One of our personal favorites is Gunner Pool, which has some of the bluest water you’ll ever encounter!
Located in the minuscule town of Fifty-Six (a Stone County city with a population that numbers only about twice its name!), Gunner Pool is sandwiched between Gunner Creek and Sylamore Creek.

The pool is about half an acre wide and is part of the Gunner Pool Recreation Area, a lesser-known gem of Arkansas. You can camp, picnic, hunt, hike, and of course, swim!

Gunner Pool’s seemingly magical blue tint is a result of dissolved limestone and other minerals from the ground beneath it. Though it has a scientific cause, it looks like something out of a fairy tale.
