We are lucky to live in a state so full of natural beauty and wonder that we never have to wander far to find it. Here are our picks for some of the best scenic drives in Georgia that you have to add to your bucket list, ASAP.

  1. Drive Through Savannah

Ken Lund/Flickr Okay, fine, this is not exactly a country road, but it sure is beautiful, so we’re going to throw it in here, anyway. History buffs and admirers of architecture will enjoy this one!

  1. Cruise along Dixie Highway between Cartersville and Adairsville.

Brent Moore/Flickr Originally planned in 1914 to connect the Midwest with the American South, the Dixie Highway will take you through the best of Georgia. You won’t believe the greenery.

  1. Wind through Warm Springs.

catd_mitchell/Flickr This scenic route through Warm Springs, Georgia, is perfect on an autumn day, but honestly, it’s pretty awe-inspiring all year, too.

  1. Cruise along State Route 6 in Henderson.

Ken Lund/Flickr State Route 6 might be a highway you frequent already; it’s much more commonly known as Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, Jimmy Campbell Parkway, Nathan Dean Parkway, and Wendy Bagwell Parkway in Paulding County. It’s also called C.H. James Parkway in Cobb County, Thornton Road in Douglas County, Camp Creek Parkway, and honorarily as Tuskegee Airmen Parkway in Fulton County. Whew!

  1. Explore a dirt road In Chattahoochee Hills.

Mike/Flickr As the photographer of this beautiful photo, Mike, said: “Why did the pig cross the road?” Truth is, nobody knows, but this picturesque scene sure is right out of a Georgia-based storybook!

  1. Take the backroads home.

Ethan Trewhitt/Flickr The location of this road in Georgia is unknown, but it sure looks welcoming! It’s a common scene all over the state, as we’ve got so many lovely country roads out there to cruise around on. You never know where you’ll end up.

  1. Oak Avenue in Savannah is to die for.

William Beem/Flickr This is the famous road in front of Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah. The way the Spanish moss trees hang over this road makes it one of the unique-looking roads in Georgia, if not the entire United States. It is absolutely dreamy.

  1. What about a deserted country road in Elder?

Ben/Flickr This road brings to mind the long and hot Georgia summers of times past, back when we and our friends would ride bikes until the sun fell out of the sky. Those were the good times.

  1. …or maybe a red dirt road in Madison County.

Elizabeth Prata via Flickr Georgia is known for its interestingly colored red dirt, and this picture depicts that perfectly in a romantic country road scene.

  1. There’s also the road to Berry College, also known as Possum Trot Road.

lovecatz/Flickr Possum Trot Road in Rome, Georgia, is about eight minutes away from Berry College, and it’s a very scenic and pleasant eight minutes, too.

  1. The shortcut from Forsyth to Barnesville in Monroe is lovely, too.

John Trainor/Flickr According to the photographer, this is their very own secret, scenic shortcut from Forsyth to Barnesville, Georgia. Do you know about this route?

Scenic Drives in Georgia April 05, 2021 Tori Jane What are some nice backcountry roads in Georgia? Luckily for us, Georgia is a beautiful state with hundreds of little-known but ultra-scenic roads weaving throughout. For example, some of our favorites include roads like the South Fulton Scenic Byway, which takes you through beautiful woodlands and scenic little ponds, and the Russell Brasstown Scenic Byway, which is highly popular for a reason! Check out this list for more of our favorites. Are there any scenic roads in Georgia? Of course! There are all kinds, from scenic byways to leisurely meanders through spring flowers and everything in between. Different regions of the state have their very own byways and scenic routes, such as the Ridge and Valley Scenic Byway, which is perfect for admirers of farmland and homestead life. You’re transported to a place filled with 19th-century barns and other items of historical interest. There’s the Altamaha Historic Scenic Byway, which will lead you through wild marshes and other southern delights. It’s up to you, because there are tons to choose from! What are some scenic places in Georgia? Well, it’s certainly hard to narrow it down to just a few, but we can try. Georgia is ridiculously beautiful, though the fan favorites in terms of our natural splendor are places that look like something out of a fairy tale, like the waterfall at Rock City Gardens, or idyllic beaches like Driftwood Beach that make you totally forget you’re not in some kind of island paradise. Little Tybee Island is insanely beautiful and is only accessible by boat, so it’s a better option if you prefer to avoid crowds.
