The roughly four-mile trail is rated as moderate and makes for an incredible adventure in a destination that’s vastly underrated. Located within Earl M. Hardy Box Canyon Springs Nature Preserve, visitors will be treated to pristine views of one of the largest springs in North America.

Tucked away amid an unassuming landscape of mostly farmland, Box Canyon is like a hidden oasis. Filled with waterfalls, swimming holes, and the clearest water you’ve ever laid eyes on, the canyon is by far one of Idaho’s greatest treasures.

From the park’s parking area, hikers can hop on the trail that leads straight down into the canyon. The trail consists of an access road at first. Once the road portion ends, you’ll follow a singletrack trail that winds along the water and to Box Canyon Springs.

As you follow the trail, the views of Box Canyon Springs get better and better. It’s definitely worth the steep descent into the canyon. On a hot day, nothing beats taking a dip in the crystal-clear water. Just keep in mind that it’s almost shockingly cold!
