Any trip to Connecticut needs at least one good hike! With all of the gorgeous nature, there are many options to choose from that are perfect for all abilities. One particularly gorgeous trail that we love is the Gay City Red Blazes Loop in Hebron Connecticut.
Th beautiful Gay City Park in Hebron, Connecticut stretches across more than 1,500 acres and features six different trails of varying difficulty.

A favorite of ours is the Red Blazes trail, which takes you in a 4.9-mile loop around the park featuring stunning river, pond, and forest views.

The trail is easy to walk with multiple types of terrain, but all types of non-motorized vehicles are also welcome, just in case you want to take in some nature on wheels!

Also welcome on the path are your furry friends! Make sure to keep all dogs leashed, (this one is doing some trail surveillance), and they can enjoy all of the nature with you!

At just under five miles, there is a lot take in for a small park, from natural wonders, to more human ones.

Along the trail is some interesting evidence of the industrial history of Hebron. You can find an old cemetery as well as the ruins of some mill buildings.

Gay City Park is actually the location of a ghost town! The ruins come from a settlement founded by the namesake of the park, John Gay, in the 1700s.

When the town mill burned down for a third time, the majority of settlers left Gay City and nature was allowed to overtake the area again, allowing for a lovely interaction between human creation and natural beauty.

Along the Red Blazes trail there are a many ponds and streams to admire. The southern half of the loop is in fact the most remote part of the park, so despite this trail being quite popular, you will be certain to find some calm and quiet spots to enjoy along your hike!

And don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the trail! A variety of birds and mammals, such as beavers and deer, populate Gay City Park and if you tread lightly, you just may spot some!
