Martha’s Vineyard is a beautiful and popular summer getaway for people from all over the country. This charming isle is pretty tiny, but there are still some hidden spots that casual tourists are unlikely to know about. The Tisbury Great Pond beach trail is a marvelous hike that will take you to the water and away from the crowds.
The beaches of Martha’s Vineyard can get pretty crowded on sunny days, but this awesome little hike will let you escape into seclusion.

Located in the Sepiessa Point Reservation near Tisbury, the trail is about 2.5 miles long and takes you to both a sparkling pond and the ocean.

The hike will lead you through several different coastal habitats and is a great place to spot shorebirds. Keep your eyes peeled for darting rabbits too!

You’ll wander through seaside meadows, grassland, and coastal savanna. The trail winds along the edge of Tisbury Great Pond and finally pops out at an ocean cove.

Plan to hike this trail during low tide if you want to enjoy the long strip of sandy beach at the trail’s end. No matter when you visit, you’ll have amazing views of the water.

The trail itself is level and wide. It’s an out-and-back trail, meaning you’ll need to turn around to return to your starting point. It can get sandy at certain points, but should be easy enough for families and total hiking newbies.
