With so many beautiful trails to choose from, the hardest part of hiking in New York is picking where you want to go! If you’re looking for an easy trail that will give you a relaxing walk through an old-growth forest, it doesn’t get much better than the Sucker Brook Trail in Newcomb.
The Sucker Brook Trail is part of a small system of trails managed by the SUNY-ESF Adirondack Interpretive Center.

The Sucker Brook trail is designated by blue markers (so it’s also called the Blue Trail), and it connects directly to the other Adirondack Interpretive Center trails.

This trail follows along the Rich Lake shoreline. You’ll be headed down the same path that loggers took when transporting logs down to the Hudson River.

This is a pretty easy loop hike without a lot of roots and only a slight elevation gain, so it’s fine for kids or beginning hikers.

There are several areas to stop and rest along the Adirondack Interpretive Center trails. Since the lake is right beside the Sucker Brook trail, it’s a great place to observe wildlife. The region is especially popular with birdwatchers.

Altogether, the Adirondack Interpretive Trails are about 3.6 miles long. There are tons of old-growth hemlock, northern hardwood, and spruce here.
