In Davenport, you’ll find a historic island in the Mississippi River that’s the perfect destination for an easy Quad Cities hike. Credit Island Park and Historical Preserve is home to natural beauty, interesting public art and a variety of recreational facilities.

The trail on Credit Island is a relatively easy hike - if you walk every bit of it, you’ll cover about 1.3 miles.

Pedestrians and cyclists can get out to Credit Island via a modern pedestrian bridge. You’ll find it on the southern tip of the island, crossing over South Concord Street.

The island is on the Mississippi Flyway, a major route for migratory birds. The lagoon is an ideal resting spot for these birds as they pass through.

Credit Island is teaming with wildlife. You might see eagles, cranes or geese - or even a flock of white pelicans!

The Island frequently floods, but that doesn’t keep it from being a vibrant place - there have been public art instillations and many events over the years. Van Halen and Journey played to an enormous crowd here back in the 1970s.

There’s a 1950s M103 heavy tank stationed on the island but the military history goes back much further - this was a site of a battle during the War of 1812.

Credit Island Park and Historical Preserve covers about 450 acres, so there’s a bit of parkland to explore but it’s still easy to cover the island on foot. Besides the lagoon and trail, the park property also has basketball courts, baseball diamonds, a disc golf course, tennis courts and more.
