Clarksville is a rather unexpected gateway to numerous outdoor adventures. Lake Dardanelle is near the city as well as the gorgeous views from Strawberry Bluff. Another worthwhile day trip near here is Horsehead Lake. Horsehead Lake has plenty of recreation for a weekend away. Let’s set up camp and get ready to play on the lake!
The Ozark National Forest holds endless gems to discover and Horsehead Lake is one of them!
Google/Robert Latus This particular gem is along the southern edge of the forest and about 11 miles north from downtown Clarksville. The 98-acre lake is a rather underrated attraction but well worth a day trip or overnight stay.
Ten sizable campsites reside around the lake for any longer stays.
Google/Casey Bates This small campground can accommodate your glamping style! The sites are spacious enough for 30-ft. long trailers or perfect for a tent or two. These sites are $15/day. Keep in mind there’s a bathhouse here too so hot showers are only a small stroll away!
Warm weather visits will reward you with a cool dip in the lake.
Google/Timothy Aldridge The lake has a large grassy beach for sunning and a designated swimming area. Around here you’ll also find a dozen picnic tables and playground.
Play in the lake or on it!
Flickr/Dave Thomas Paddle around in a kayak or take a small-motor boat onto Horsehead. You may reel in largemouth bass, blue gill, redear sunfish, or catfish!
The actual lake may be the focal point of the trip but there’s plenty to explore around the forest, too.
Google/Honda Killer 660 There’s approximately 35-miles of ATV trail zigzagging around Horsehead. The scenery is downright gorgeous, especially when you make it to the bluffs overlooking the lake! For more details about the ATV trails, head here.
