You might have heard of Indiana’s premier amusement park, but did you know that said park also has an epic campground? Honestly, we feel like it might just be the best camping in Indiana. It sits in the shadow of Indiana Beach, often being overlooked by tourists because they don’t even realize it’s there. Locals, however, know all about it, and they couldn’t love it more.
Lake Shafer is located in Monticello, Indiana, and it’s one of two reservoirs in the area.

Lake Shafer is probably best known for Indiana Beach Amusement Park, which sits right on top of it.
Roger Gerbig/Flickr Also alongside the lake, though, is an epic campground that one could essentially call an “outdoor resort”; it’s got hundreds of campsites - primitive and modern - and more amenities than you could ever imagine.
There are so many options to choose from just for camping, let alone all the other fun stuff.
Campground Views Take your pick of tent sites (with or without electricity and hookups), RV sites with the works, quaint cabins, fancier cabins, and more. No matter what your taste in camping is, Indiana Beach Campgrounds has you covered.
There is also a KOA, so if you prefer staying on the grounds of those, you’re still golden.
Campground Views Don’t have a tent? Not to worry. The campsite has tents available with varied amenities. Make sure to check the website for the most up-to-date information on tent rentals and options.
So, other than camping, what is there to do?
Roger Gerbig/Flickr In one word? PLENTY. In another? TONS. If you’re not a fan of lake swimming, there’s a pool you can lounge in instead. There is also a dog park, wifi, mini golf, plenty of fishing, and so much more.
There are some pretty unique amenities onsite as well, including (but not limited to) a full basketball court, a splash pad, a game center… we could go on.
Campground Views Campers also get a discount on tickets to the amusement park, as well as transportation from the campgrounds to get you there.
The grounds are busiest on the weekends, so plan accordingly.
Campground Views The campgrounds are open from May 1st to October 31, so there’s plenty of time during the year to enjoy the scenery and amenities.
For a full list of amenities, more pictures, reservations, pricing, and more, be sure to visit the official campground website.
