It’s not uncommon to hear Mainers argue about which season is the best. You might expect most people to claim it’s summer. With the green forests and the most picturesque coast and beaches, we can see their point. Others love autumn and taking long drives as the leaves change. We think every season is a beauty here, but our favorite season is seafood season! That’s when the seasonal food spots around the state open their doors when the temperatures rise and stay open until the leaves fall. The spot we’re featuring today is one of the first to open for the season and you can bet that we’ll be there as often as we can before winter!
There’s a lot to love about eating seafood in Maine, but Ken’s Place in Scarborough might offer some of the best reasons!

To start, this southern Maine institution located on Pine Point Road heading towards Pine Point Beach has been around for nearly 100 years! That’s a lot of time to perfect the art of serving seafood to picky Mainers and the tourists that flock here.

With age has come perfection, but it also means a classic look and feel. Part diner, part seafood shack, and part drive-in, Ken’s Place feels like what you might expect to see in a movie. And eating here is simple.

While things here are fast and easy, the food tastes like it’s coming from the kitchen of a more upscale spot. The fresh shellfish is incredible.

If you just can’t wait for seafood shack season in Maine, check out one of our favorite spots that’s always open. Year-round Warren’s Lobster House in Maine has been serving up seafood since 1940.
