Have you ever walked or driven through a tunnel of trees? As you can imagine, it is positively magical, and fortunately for Coloradans, we have a few of these natural attractions to go around! For the best tunnel of trees in Colorado, however, you will want to drive on this equally magical state road:

Welcome to Last Dollar Road, one of the most stunning drives in all of Colorado!

AllTrails/Shaun Harvey

Connecting Telluride and Ridgway, Last Dollar Road is an 18-mile-long dirt road that winds through lush valleys and around mature aspens, making for a drive that is best enjoyed during the colorful fall months.

As countless trees surround the road, certain parts of the drive contain a lovely tunnel of trees, which is a sight that you do not want to miss.

Can’t make it this fall? No problem, as the tunnel of trees manages to stay gorgeous year-round!

In addition to the trees, Last Dollar Road is also home to some of the best photography opportunities in the state, as well as history via the area’s many abandoned mines and homes.

Please note: While 18 miles may not sound like a lot, it is a dirt road, and therefore drive times may be longer than expected. Please set aside 2 to 3 hours to complete the trip.

Last Dollar Road and its magical tunnel of trees can be accessed from Telluride by taking CO 145 west 5 miles and turning right on Last Dollar Road. If coming from Ridgway, take Highway 62 west until you see the Last Dollar Road sign, turn left, and continue until you turn left at a fork in the road.
