The Ledges Trail is undoubtedly one of the most stunning parts of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. That’s high praise indeed, as the beloved area has over 32,000 acres of pristine rural landscape. The trail’s focal point and namesake are the Ritchie Ledges, archaeological remnants of a time long ago when the area was a swamp.
The Ledges Trail is about two miles long and is part of a series of trails in the Virginia Kendall Park region of the valley. The scenery is incredible and like nothing you’ve ever seen before!

The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the only national park to be designated in Ohio. For decades, it has served as a haven to nature lovers looking to enjoy the outdoors.
Angelica Heggem/AllTrails The valley was long ago inhabited by the Lenapé Nation tribe of Native Americans, who believe that all land is sacred and alive.
The 100-foot tall ledges will have you forgetting you are only 30 minutes away from Cleveland. You’ll feel far away from present day as you hike through the stunning trail.
terry mach/AllTrails The Cuyahoga Valley is unique because it is so close to multiple metropolitan areas. Akron and Cleveland are both nearby, but feel far from the sandstone cliffs of the ledges.
The ledges were formed by erosion 320 million years ago. It’s incredible to imagine, but all of this area used to be underwater!

The views from the Virginia Kendall Ledges Overlook are absolutely amazing. Two hundred feet above the Cuyahoga River, you’ll feel like you are on top of the world!
John Lentz/AllTrails You can see over much of the Cuyahoga Valley from the overlook— a phenomenal sight at any time of year! The overlook is above a wooded area so the trees change color with the seasons.
The trail can be accessed year round. You’ll definitely want to bring your camera to photograph all the fascinating landscapes that you’ll see.
