With over 200 miles of stunning trails, the Ozark Highlands Trail can be a beautiful but overwhelming endeavor. We’ve highlighted numerous features along the OHT from waterfalls to vistas but today we’re focused on a more underrated spot. One spur you don’t want to miss is the Log Wagon Gap. Let’s hit the trail and scout around this gorgeous area:

The trailhead may not look like much but don’t be deceived! This spur off of the Ozark Highlands Trail is well worth the hike.

AllTrails/Roy Stovall The Log Wagon Gap to Ozark Highlands Trail is a hike within the Lower Buffalo National River area. You can spy one of the trail points on this map.

The point-to-point trail is a delightful dive into the Leatherwood Forest.

AllTrails/Tucker King You can add this spur onto a longer OHT haul but from point-to-point the hike is about 3-miles long.

This trail does include creek crossing so be sure to pack accordingly!

AllTrails/Mandy Langston In addition to your favorite pair of hiking boots, a pair of water shoes are a necessary item to have. The trail crosses Big Creek numerous times.

Parts of the hike may be soggy but the views are spectacular!

AllTrails/Roy Stovall The changes in elevation do make this trail a moderate-rated hike but we do love the different perspectives of the hollow and creek.

Drink in the bluff views but don’t miss what’s right along the trail.

AllTrails/Roy Stovall The interesting rock formations are downright staggering in size! One of the vistas to note is Tilting Rock. It offers sweeping views of the Big Creek valley and peeps of the ridges of Almus Knob.

From creek beds to cliffside views, this small spur of the OHT is one worth bookmarking.

AllTrails/Roy Stovall Tilted Rock, Tater Hill (pictured), and Big Creek are just some of the sights to see along Log Wagon Gap. As always be sure to research this trail further before taking that first step. We recommend this GPS-friendly map.

We’d love to see any of your OHT photos in our Facebook group, Arkansas Nature Lovers. You should join for your chance to be featured and to discover why there’s nothing better than Arkansas’ stunning nature.
