As the temperatures begin to rise in Mississippi, staying cool is surely at the top of everyone’s priority list. Back in the good ole days, a swimming hole was the perfect place for a refreshing swim. And while these secluded spots may be a bit scarcer than they once were, they do still exist – and you’ll find one at Merit Water Park. Take a look:
Merit Water Park is located in Simpson County on Rials Creek, just four miles south of D’Lo, MS.

Not your typical water park, Merit Water Park doesn’t have any slides. Instead, the 25-acre recreation area includes a beautiful waterfall, old-fashioned swimming hole, and creek-side beach.

A great place to cool off, Rials Creek is spring-fed, which means the water is nice and cold all year long.

At first glance, the water appears to be brown; however, if you look closer, you’ll realize it’s actually crystal clear. The brown hue that you see is just the bottom of the creek.

Relatively shallow in most areas, the swimming hole is perfect for swimmers of all ages. It’s also a great place to catch some rays since you can pull your beach chair right into the creek.

The swimming hole is about 7’ – 10’ deep in some spots, so adults have just as much room to splash around as the kids do.

Though small, the creek’s rushing rapids and flowing falls form chutes and Jacuzzis, making it an ideal spot for tubing.
