The Silver Beach Carousel has been delighting Michigan’s residents and guests for over a century, with its whimsical colors and regal horses, which are said to have been “the most perfect carousel horses” ever built. Generations of people have loved the carousel, and its legacy and many memories have been passed down through the years.

Its first home was at the Silver Beach Amusement Park in 1910, where it stayed until the 1970s when the park shut down. The carousel was then sold to buyers in New Mexico.

As the years wore on, that original carousel ended up in Washington, and the people of St. Joseph built a new Silver Beach Carousel in tribute to the one that used to reside in their waterfront amusement park.

The new carousel has replicas of the original six horses, 20 new horses, 22 new menagerie figures, and wheelchair-accessible peacock and sea serpent chariots.

Some of the unique animal figures include a flamingo, a tiger cub, a sea otter, and a panda.

As is tradition, in order to ride the carousel, guests must present a token. One token is good for one ride, and they are about $3 each (a bit less if you buy in bulk).

The carousel is decorated for different holidays, like Halloween and Christmas, and special music plays around these dates.

One of the original band organs, and the last to play in the amusement park when it was in operation, still plays music for the carousel to this day.
