Hiking trails that combine beautiful views with history are always interesting. We’ve got one right here in Arkansas for you! The Williams Hollow Trail at Pea Ridge National Military Park is a 2.7 mile loop trail that has historical significance as the site of the 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge. The event was one of the most monumental western battles of the Civil War, and is notable for saving Missouri for the Union.
Pea Ridge is famous for being one of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields in the country.

As you walk down the trail, you’ll see cannons and markers for noteworthy sites, like a Confederate field hospital that was set up in one area.

Interestingly, the Civil War battle was not the only famous historical event to occur near Pea Ridge. The tragic Trail of Tears led through what is now the military park, and the famous Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach ran this route in the late 1850s.

The trail is moderately sloped in some areas, but overall, generally flat and suitable for most hikers.
Michael Rush/Alltrails It’s a loop trail, so you’ll end up back where you started.
Even without the historical aspects, this would be a stunning hike!
Susan Foust/Google Maps At over 4,300 acres, there’s plenty to explore.
Make sure to bring bug spray, as insects can get bad in the wooded areas of the park.
Brian G/Google Maps Lots of insects lead to lots of birds. If you are a friend to the feathered, you’ll find plenty of wildlife to observe on the trail!
