New York S Old Rifle Range Trail Is One Of The Region S Best Hikes

Western New York doesn’t get the attention as a hiking destination that regions like the Adirondacks and Catskills do, but it’s got its fair share of natural beauty waiting for adventurers who relish an opportunity to take the road less traveled. Not only is Lucien Morin Park an ideal recreational spot for Rochester-area residents, but the wealth of opportunities for fun make it a great spot for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts as well.

Most people look to the Catskills or the Adirondacks when they’re setting out for an adventurous hiking trip in upstate New York. But there are also a number of great hikes in western New York, and this pretty spot outside Rochester is worth a trip.

On the southern edge of Irondequoit Bay sits Lucien Morin Park, which is right in the midst of a popular area for cyclists, hikers, and kayakers.

If you’re in the area and looking for some outdoor adventure, explore the Old Rifle Range Trail, a 3.1-mile trail that is a bird-watching hotspot and features beautiful views of the Irondequoit Creek, which winds through the park.

It’s a moderately rated trail, making it both suitable and adventurous for a pretty wide range of hikers. Dogs are allowed as long as they’re on a leash, and you can expect to see some wildlife along this trail no matter what time of year you are visiting.
