The Oasis Diner has so much history (and good food) to feast upon! This old-school Indiana diner has been around since the 1950s. Through perseverance and renovations, the Oasis is the same diner you may remember from the 1950s! Let’s take a delicious tour of this beloved eatery in Plainfield.

Just a few blocks west of town hall resides a bright flash from the past: the Oasis Diner.

Facebook/Oasis Diner This delicious diner is a time capsule of old-school grub and desserts. Although it has the charm of the ’50s, any generation can fall in love with this joint.

This is one place where the history is just as rich as the food!

Facebook/Oasis Diner The Oasis Diner originally opened in 1954 under James Canavan and Frank Thurber. The stainless steel structure was designed by Mountain View Diners out of New Jersey and brought to Plainfield via railroad. The diner has undergone different owners throughout the decades including the Thompsons, Diningers, Raymond Piercy, and (most currently) locals Doug Huff and Don Rector.

The Oasis has been renovated a couple of times, too. After closing in 2008, the restaurant was later relocated and brought back to life by the current owners. Nearly every detail of the original 1954 eatery was brought back!

This must-stop along US 40 is a great way for families to refuel.

Many of the options served here are the same classics from the ’50s.

Facebook/Oasis Diner The most requested item is the original tenderloin sandwich. It’s made with local Indiana pork that’s cut, tenderized, and pressed in-house. Every piece is breaded by hand upon ordering to ensure the freshest sandwich possible. Simply mouthwatering!

And this wouldn’t be a diner without a frosted-glass milkshake.

Facebook/Oasis Diner The hand-dipped ice cream is from the Wisconsin-based company, Chocolate Shoppe. Get your frozen treat as a shake, float, or malt! The Oasis Diner also has a baker’s rack filled with locally-made cakes, pies, and bread.

Come to Oasis Diner for the food but stay for a step back in time!
