There is no doubt that there are some pretty unique towns scattered around the United States. In fact, there are some pretty incredible towns in the Gem State. But, there is one small town that is often overlooked on these lists — Salmon, Idaho. This small town in central Idaho has approximately 3,000 residents, the most beautiful surroundings, and a history that many people don’t know about.

As you drive into Salmon, you’ll immediately fall in love. This small town is located along the Salmon River and has views that are absolutely mesmerizing.

The Salmon Valley is known as the birthplace of Sacajawea, a Lemhi Shoshone woman who assisted Lewis and Clark on their expedition. In the early 1800s, Lewis and Clark entered the Salmon Valley and spent time receiving supplies and exchanging information from Sacajawea’s people.

For those who want to relax, if you travel just outside of this small town, you can visit Goldbug Hot Springs. There is a difficult 3.5-mile hike to reach the springs but once you arrive, it’s heavenly.
