For those who have yet to experience the bubble waffle, allow us to introduce you. A bubble waffle is a Chinese sweet snack made in a special waffle iron, and it’s fantastic. For the last several years, the Kow Kow food truck has been enticing us with delicious bubble waffles topped with ice cream and other toppings all over Providence. Recently, this beloved food truck moved to a storefront location, and we couldn’t be happier.

The Kow Kow food truck first opened in 2018, when owner Vilada Khammahavong, or Vi, decided to take a break from medical school to delve into the bubble waffle business.

Kow Kow / Facebook Vi loved bubble waffles as a child, so she decided to experiment with pairing them with ice cream.

Needless to say, Vi’s efforts were enormously successful, so much so that she decided to open a storefront location.

Kow Kow / Facebook The storefront location opened in April, immediately drawing huge crowds and long lines.

You’ll find this one-of-a-kind dessert shop in Providence’s Fox Point neighborhood – and when it’s open, it’s never this empty.

Kow Kow / Facebook The Kow Kow food truck won a Best of Rhode Island Reader’s Poll award in 2019 for Pop-Up Vendor, so it isn’t surprising that the storefront location is so popular.

The concept is simple: Choose an ice cream flavor, select a waffle flavor, and then decide on a scoop size.

Kow Kow / Facebook You can opt for one scoop or two scoops. And even if you just get a single scoop, you can split it between two ice cream flavors.

From the delicious Oreo Factory to the colorful Unicorn, you’ll find something for every craving here.

Kow Kow / Facebook They even have gluten free and vegan options for those with dietary restrictions.

Other than the delicious desserts, here’s the best part about this place: Vi and her team advocate for sustainability by supporting and working with local farms and businesses whenever possible.

Kow Kow / Facebook Your fresh sweet treat is almost certainly Rhode Island-grown and made.

Kow Kow is open daily from noon until 9 p.m.

Kow Kow / Facebook When it comes to recommendations, we strongly suggest you try every last thing on the menu.
