We here in Massachusetts are in luck, because the best views of the shower are from the northern hemisphere from around 9 p.m. You won’t need a telescope or binoculars to see the meteors.

Shooting stars will streak across the sky until dawn, though they’ll be most visible from around midnight to 3 a.m., when the sky is darkest.

Surges of up to 50 meteors per hour are expected. The average rate will likely be about 18 meteors per hour, but keep your eyes peeled for surges!

The best way to observe this celestial show is from a rural spot far away from the light pollution of urban areas. You’ll also want to pick a clear night, as cloud cover can block your view.

Weather is an important factor in enjoying the upcoming meteor shower, so keep an eye on the forecast and plan accordingly. It’s worth waiting for a clear night rather than staying up late on a cloudy evening. Though you don’t need a telescope to see the meteors, getting a closer view is always fun!
