Clocking in at an impressive 1,786 acres, the Bogue Chitto State Park is a picture-perfect spot to spend an afternoon exploring Louisiana’s natural scenery. With a visitor’s center, multiple picnic pavilions, a water playground, and 11 (yes, 11!) fishing ponds, it’s no wonder why this state park has attracted visitors from all over the state.
There are more than seven miles of nature trails to explore, plus another 10+ equestrian trails that weave throughout the park. One trail, in particular, leads to a picturesque little swimming spot that’s perfect for warm-weather adventures. Let’s check it out.
The Gorge Run Trail is a five-mile loop trail that will take you all around Bogue Chitto State Park.

Nestled along the Bogue Chitto River, the trail will have you journeying through the cypress-tupelo swamps, towering pines, and every now and then, a spectacular glimpse of the river.
