Winter may feel like the longest season in Wyoming, but if you find a way to get outdoors and enjoy the snow, you’ll end up much happier than if you hide inside and try to avoid it. One of the best winter adventures you can embark on is the snowshoe trail around Bradley and Taggart Lake in Grand Teton National Park.
Bradley and Taggart Lake are two of the most iconic bodies of water in Wyoming. While most people get to see them in the glistening summer sun, locals and those who visit during winter can experience these alpine lakes in a completely different way.

The snowshoe trail around the lakes is a six-mile loop, and it will probably take you all day. It’s not particularly difficult, but it’s absolutely breathtaking, and you’ll want to stop to take in the view around almost every corner.

The longer you hike, the better the views get! Grand Teton National Park is quite the majestic sight when it’s covered in a fresh blanket of snow.

If you don’t have snowshoes, you won’t get too far. While the first part of the trail is usually pretty well broken out, soon you’ll find yourself walking on snow that’s several feet deep. If you don’t have snowshoes, you can rent them from almost any outfitter in Jackson.

The trail is fairly easy, and while you’ll certainly work up a sweat, it’s the perfect place for both beginner and experienced winter hikers.

Since you’ll be making a day of it, pack lunch to enjoy by the shores of these iced-over lakes. Be sure to dress warm, too!

Allow plenty of time to get back to the trailhead before dark. In the winter, the days are short, so pack a headlamp in case you lose track of time staring at the Teton Range.
