The Berkeley Rose Garden was completed and dedicated for public use in 1937. Since then, groups of volunteers and community members have put a lot of work into maintaining the garden’s beauty and turning it into the gorgeous destination you see today.

Complete with a terraced amphitheater and a 220-foot-long redwood pergola, the rose garden is truly a picture-perfect scene. It’s no wonder it’s been regarded as one of the finest rose gardens in all of Northern California!

The garden is free to enter and is open every day from dawn to dusk. Pathways make it easy to stroll through the garden’s rows and take in all of the beauty. Although wheelchair accessible, there are many steep slopes and steps that wheelchair users should be aware of.

There are around 250 rose varieties growing inside of the garden. The best time to visit is when they are in full bloom, which typically occurs in mid-May. However, there’s truly no bad time to enjoy the serene atmosphere and scenic views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Additionally, the garden contains four tennis courts, a picnic area, hiking trails, foot bridges, and an ornamental pool that’s fed by Codornices Creek. This garden is just full of surprises!
