Take A Hike Along The Fox River Trail In Illinois

Ready to embark on a hiking adventure over bridges and through several towns, a tunnel, and numerous nature preserves? Fox River Trail is a lengthy multi-use pathway that leads through some of the best scenery in the Prairie State. You can begin your journey at any point along the trail, but the city of Elgin is a good place to start.

The Fox River Trail is a point-to-point trail connecting the communities of North Algonquin, South Algonquin, Dundee, Elgin, South Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva Batavia, and North Aurora.

This multi-use trail runs along each side of the Fox River for approximately 40 miles, passing over six bridges along the way. Popular activities along this path are hiking, walking, biking, and in the winter, cross-country skiing.

When the trail gets to the Raymond Street Forest Preserve in South Elgin, you’ll pass through a tunnel under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks that was opened in 2021.
