One of our favorite ways to enjoy warmer weather in Maine is by heading straight for the water. But that doesn’t have to mean hitting the beach. There’s something special about the state’s waterways and the best are the rivers. They can sometimes offer even more adventure than the ocean and you won’t have to deal with the same parking issues. Whether you prefer fishing, swimming, kayaking, or canoeing there’s a fun way to get out and enjoy nature. And if you’re looking for new ways to get outside on the water consider this tubing trip.

There’s nothing like spending a day on the river in Maine and our favorite is the Kennebec!

You can certainly enjoy it on your own, but we recommend visiting Three Rivers Whitewater Rafting where you can head out on their self-guided river tubing trip.

While the whitewater rafting trips leave from their base, tubing trips depart from Inn by the River which is less than three miles down the road.

Once you’ve rented your tube and gone through the safety demonstration, you’ll head down the driveway of the inn to the water to put in across the street.

Then, get ready for 6.5-miles of bliss as you cruise along the river at a leisurely, relaxing pace.

You can choose to go it alone or tether to a friend’s tube. They’ll even rent you an extra tube to carry a cooler for refreshments on the water.

The trip typically takes between two and three hours depending on the movement of the river. Once you’ve come to the end a shuttle will pick you up and take you back to the Inn by the River. This is a great place to stay overnight, or just enjoy a drink and meal before heading home.
