Welcome to a little piece of Kansas history known as Free State Brewing Co., the first legal brewery to open up after Kansas’s dry Prohibition era.

Kansas fought hard to stay a free state, and Chunk Magerl himself helped change liquor laws in Kansas so he could open his own brewing company in Lawrence. Over 100 years of history was changed in 1989 when this important spot opened up and Kansas is happier for it.

The list of everything on tap is always updated, and always includes Free State beer, surrounded by plenty of other options - the more the merrier when it comes to the tap!

Not only will you find plenty of variety here, they also serve several burgers to boot. As they say here at the brewery, “without beer, things do not seem to go as well.” Dinner is included in that, too, so it seems.

Though this brewpub is responsible for changing beer in Kansas for the better, the Kansas-style service is never lacking. The staff always have great recommendations for food and beer pairings and trying out something new could be the best way to enjoy it! Locally made beer always tastes just a bit better than the rest.
