Did you know one of the architectural wonders in the United States is right here in Connecticut? The Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, is owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is open for guided tours. The home is a stunning example of design and shows off not only the beauty of the building, but also the natural area around it.

The Glass House is located on a 200-acre park that actually features several stunning buildings. All were designed by famed architect Philip Johnson, who was incredibly influential in his field.

Get your dad jokes about throwing stones ready: this house is made almost entirely out of glass. The frame is constructed of steel, but otherwise, all exterior walls are transparent glass.

Luckily, the bathroom is located in the center of the house – inside a brick cylinder.

The rest of the home is just one single room that comprises the kitchen, dining, and bedroom areas. The entire home measures 1,815 square feet.

Johnson and his life partner David Whitney designed the property’s landscape. The grounds are as stunning as the home itself.

Imagine waking up to nearly 360-degree views of your beautiful surroundings! Johnson often joked that he had the most expensive wallpaper in the world.

The property contains several other buildings designed by Johnson. The most notable contrast against the Glass House is the Brick House.

One amazing thing about glass walls is how different the home looks throughout the day!
