Have you ever had the privilege of walking through a labyrinth? If you are unfamiliar with the concept, a labyrinth (not to be confused with the David Bowie classic) is a “complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one’s way,” which may sound daunting but is actually a very peaceful place that promotes quiet and meditation. To experience this strange structure for yourself, we recommend you visit this hidden Colorado labyrinth that few people know exists:

Hiding away near Colorado’s oldest church is a giant prayer labyrinth, an ongoing effort by volunteers who have molded and stacked thousands of mud bricks to create an intricate wall.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish

Located on the grounds of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Conejos, the labyrinth - or El Santuario de los Pobladores - is built to embody the Mysteries of the Rosary of the Catholic Faith and is billed as being “not only a sanctuary, but a shrine, a special place for meditation, and an invitation to prayer and the deepening of one’s Faith.”

While the project has yet to be complete, you can still visit the site and get a good idea of what the final product will look like!

When you visit, be sure also to visit Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, which was founded in 1858 and has been in use ever since.
