If you’ve driven past Darleen’s Subs & Pizza in Portsmouth you may have imagined chowing down on a great sandwich filled with meatballs or any variety of deli meat. There are actually two great shops inside! In addition to Darleen’s subs you’ll also find Nikki’s Banh Mi. This little shop serves some of the best Vietnamese sandwiches and dishes we’ve ever tasted outside of Hanoi.

But, first. What’s is a banh mi sandwich? Traditionally served in a French roll, you’ll have your choice of Bulgogi marinated beef or chicken, or Lemongrass Pork. It’s then topped with fresh pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, cucumber, and their homemade sriracha aioli.

You’ll find this simple sandwich being sold off the back of bicycles in some Vietnamese cities, making it an easy and delicious meal on-the-go. And that’s just what you’ll find here, too.
