Acadia National Park in Maine is known for its stunning views spread across 47,000 acres of coastal headlands. The Jordan Pond Loop Trail is an accessible way to experience that natural beauty, without having to go full out Cheryl Strayed.

The 3.4-mile loop trail is rated as moderate and experiences heavy traffic from eager hikers. It’s recommended that hikers come at sunrise or sunset for the best views and least crowded access to the trails.

Jordan Pond Loop is best when hiked between April and October and is often frequented by bird watchers as well as hikers and runners.

About 30% of the trail is a wood planked walkway which is easier to walk through than the rockier sections of the trail, but makes two way traffic tricky. This is another great reason to hike the path early before the crowds.

Wildlife of all kinds has been spotted along this trail and in the pond, including loons, beavers, mink, turtles, frogs, and many others. Wild mushrooms are also aplenty on the side of the path.

Hikers report that the trail is very family friendly and level all the way around, unless you choose to take the diversion to Bubble Rock which is at a much steeper elevation. A small section of boulders is the most challenging area, but still accessible for young children.

Conveniently nearby is the Jordan Pond House, a restaurant that serves popovers and tea lakeside. It’s the perfect spot to refuel after a rewarding hike around the Loop Trail.
