Nestled away in the heart of the Cripple Creek Victor Mining District, Victor is a former mining town that - at its peak - was one of the most profitable communities in the country.

Founded in 1891, Victor was once home to more than 20,000 residents and several successful, non-mining businesses like hotels, restaurants and saloons, shops, and a post office.

Sadly, when the mines began to dry up and eventually close due to World War II, the town of Victor began to decline, with most families leaving to find opportunities elsewhere.

Unlike most other mining communities, Victor managed to make a comeback from 1976 to 1989, as the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company was formed and another whopping 150,000 troy ounces of gold were uncovered from surrounding mines.

While mining is no longer as prosperous as it was, the “City of Gold Mines” is still a real gem, as the town of approximately 450 residents is also home to historic buildings galore, including the original Victor Daily Record newspaper office, the Victor Hotel, and trolley depot.
