Who doesn’t love a good ghost story? When we think about the tales that keep us up at night, it’s always the ones that have some tie to the places we spend time. The ones that are New Hampshire-based that we can almost imagine ourselves being a part of. And that’s why we love the ghost story coming out of this historic inn located in the town of Tilton!

The Tilton Inn got its start back in 1875 and has seen stays by some notable names throughout history. Guests from Henry Ford to Thomas Edison have spent the night, which is a testament to just how lovely this place was and still is.

It’s burned down three times, so it’s seen some changes over the years. But one thing that seems not to have changed is some of the people inside. Reports say that some of those who have walked through these doors, even those dating back to the early days, are still here!

One fire killed a 12-year-old girl in the Sanborn room in the 1800s and her ghost is said to enjoy the free reign she now has of the inn.

This adventurous spirit has been reported in her own room as well as in the restaurant and the entrance area.

The fact that the ghost of a child shares the hotel with guests isn’t terribly alarming though. She’s said to be nice and stays out of the way most of the time.
