Within Red Top Mountain State Park, there is a beautiful woodland trail that wanders around in a loop along north Lake Allatoona. This wonderful hike offers a glimpse into nature that is filled with towering trees, wildflowers in bloom, and so much more. But what’s even cooler is that this trail gets its name, Homestead Trail, from the ruins of an old cabin that once existed in the area. All that’s left of the homestead is a chimney and concrete drive, and yet, the ruins of what once was adds a bit of mystery and history to the hike.

There are other trails that connect with the Homestead Trail that hikers can use to extend their walk through nature. For instance, you can return back and take the Sweet Gum Trail to make a double loop!
