Back in 1939, a foundry worker named George Pekios started the book store out of the living room of his East Moline home. The enterprise took off and decades later, it’s still going strong, and is now owned by Carter Brown.

The store’s inventory is impressive. It has it all - hardcovers and paperbacks, literature, contemporary fiction​, sci-fi/fantasy books, mystery novels and books for kids and young adults There’s also a huge nonfiction collection - everything from books on sports and entertainment to local history, foreign languages and science and math.
