Known as “The Trout Capital of the World”, it’s an especially great day trip destination for nature enthusiasts. However, there’s a lot more to this little town than meets the eye. Take your time, roam the downtown area, and uncover all that Buhl has to offer!
A town of just 4,200, Buhl is a hidden gem in south-central Idaho. Located right along the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway, it makes for a lovely day trip destination filled with shopping, food, nature, and small-town charm.

Founded in 1906 and named after Frank H. Buhl, an investor who brought large-scale irrigation to the Magic Valley, water is kinda a big deal in this little town. After all, the city itself is often referred to as “The Trout Capital of the World.”

And it’s no wonder why! Buhl is home to numerous trout producers like Clear Springs Foods that produce a majority of the rainbow trout consumed in the United States. Clear Springs by itself processes over 20 million pounds of trout a year.

On top of its major fishing culture, Buhl is an absolute delight to explore. Stop at the Buhl Visitor Center before walking downtown and checking out the cute shops and eateries.

They say some of the best ice cream in the state is right here in Buhl, and there’s only one way to see if the rumors are true. Stop at Cloverleaf Creamery where you can indulge in handmade ice cream made with milk from Cloverleaf’s very own cows.

Buhl may be a small town but it’s a big source of adventure. Venture out to the Snake River Plain for a hike or make the trip to Balanced Rock, a famous rock formation just south of town.
