Nature preserves are a wonderful way to spend time with your family while introducing your little ones to the great outdoors. Luckily, Louisiana has plenty of spots that fit the bill, like Barataria Preserve, the Northlake Nature Center, and the Acadiana Park Nature Station. Once used as a dirt and gravel mine, the site sat abandoned for many years before the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (more commonly known as BREC) teamed up with the Army Corps of Engineers to open this scenic oasis in 2002.

The 57-acre park features two fishing lakes, a pavilion, restrooms, and a few lovely nature trails.

All of the trails meet up to form one big loop, so you can mix and match depending on your schedule.

And since all of the trails are less than a mile long, you can easily knock them out before lunchtime!
