Reno may be one of Nevada’s only “big cities”, but that doesn’t mean there’s a lack of natural beauty – far from it, actually! When in Reno, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy some peace and quiet with beautiful natural scenery. The city is home to dozens of fantastic parks, but Virginia Lake Park is most definitely a destination of note. Here you can take a stroll along a paved path while taking in the views of Virginia Lake. Check it out for a casual outing in this gorgeous urban park.

Virginia Lake is a man-made lake located just west of the Peppermill Hotel in Reno, Nevada. Although close to downtown, the park surrounding the lake makes for an excellent place to enjoy nature’s tranquility.

The 25-acre lake may be man-made but it’s full of natural beauty. It’s regularly home to waterfowl, so expect to see ducks, geese, gulls, and more. And keep an eye out for turtles, too!

The Virginia Lake Park Loop Trail is a mile-long, completely paved trail that stretches all the way around the lake. It’s regularly used for jogging, dog walking, cycling, and strolling. There are plenty of benches and tables along the way where you can enjoy a peaceful moment.

The park actually has a long history here in Reno. It was built in the late ’30s by a federal employment history during the Great Depression. At the time, a fish hatchery operated in the park. Today, that same area is used as a dog park!

There’s no swimming allowed in the 24-acre lake. However, fishing is a popular activity at Virginia Lake and it’s regularly stocked with game fish like rainbow trout, brown trout, and bass. Check out the fishing pier on the eastern side of the lake.
