Fast food might not be the obvious choice for a meal when you’re in Maine, but that might just be the result of looking in the wrong places. While we would never recommend skipping out on the local mom-and-pop shops or the fish shacks that dot the coast, if you’re in a pinch you might want to check out an ultra-unique McDonald’s in one of the state’s most famous shopping towns!
Welcome to the Freeport McDonald’s located on Mallett Drive.

If you’ve been to Freeport but have never seen this location, there’s a good chance you’ve driven right by it thinking it was a doctor’s office or even a private home. You won’t find those giant golden arches we’re all so used to seeing at the side of the road.

That’s because this McDonald’s is actually a little piece of history. Located in a colonial home that’s over 150 years old this fast food restaurant is likely much different than any of those you’ve visited before.

Even the food is unique! Like other McDonald’s locations in Maine, you’ll find a lobster roll on the menu.

Before you discount it, it’s worth mentioning that these get rave reviews! Of course you can also get a burger and a side of fries, but when in Maine you might as well do things a bit differently.

Since you’ll already be in Freeport, you might as well spend some time exploring. Of course, you’ll need to shop but there are also some great natural areas to explore. The Stonewood Trail in Maine offers 2.7-miles of flat terrain for a leisurely adventure.
