It’s probably fair to say that safety plays a pretty significant role in all of our lives. If you’re considering moving within or to Missouri, you’ll likely take into consideration the safety ratings of your ideal city or town. That’s pretty easy to do, thanks to Safewise, which recently published its list of the 10 safest cities to live in Missouri in 2021. Did yours make the list?

Safewise, an online security resource, recently published its seventh annual report on America’s safest cities.

To identify each state’s top safest cities, Safewise studied a variety of data, including from the FBI. For the 2021 list, the company consulted the FBI Crime Report Statistics for 2019.

From those statistics, it reviewed the numbers for violent crime, which includes murder, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery. Larceny theft, burglary, and motor vehicle theft, all property crimes, were also taken into consideration.

However, Safewise took its research a step further, creating a national survey that allowed Americans to share their most urgent safety concerns. Missourians, for example, were asked what crimes concerned them the most.

Missouri ranked fairly high in both violent and property crime rates compared to the rest of the United States. In fact, it came in eighth for the highest violent crime rate in the U.S. and 12th for the highest property crime rate in the U.S.

The crime rate didn’t go unnoticed by Missourians, 46 percent of whom stated they worry about their personal safety daily. Forty-eight percent were concerned with package theft, for example, while 38 percent worry about violent crime.

Once all of the data was reviewed, Safewise compiled its list of the top 10 safest cities to live in Missouri in 2021. Clever, Vandalia, Savannah, Oronogo, Cottleville, and Glendale came in the top six.
